Dear foodies: Halp. detlef and I are starting training…

Dear foodies:

Halp. detlef and I are starting training routines this week - we'll both be doing cardio and weightlifting at least three times a week. At the same time.... it's Lent. We Orthodoxes keep it pretty strict by going vegan for those 40 days. While I won't require detlef to follow that in the slightest, I like to follow it as much as my health allows. SO....

what would you do? Do we need to keep meat in our diets while we're muscle-building? Should I go back to saengerin's protein shakes? Beans? Cheese? Whaaaaat?

Do you mean really vegan? because then I don't think you can have cheese... that said, I still think it's totally possible, you just have to be REALLY strict about no dairy. I have a friend who is in terrific health who is vegan. He eats tons of nuts, beans and dark greens.

I do mean vegan - we're supposed to abstain from all animal products, olive oil, and alcohol. I don't tend to follow it that strictly because it can reaaaally screw up my guts. I aim for vegetarian.

I think beans and lentils will be a big factor this year - just need to make up some nice lunches and such with them.

I do, and he eats at home. I'm considering the lentil soup we made for you guys that one time for such an instance.
